Question!

I guess the question of the day is…How many complaints will it take to have the people who regulate the Moving industry itself take a stand and do something to fix the problem?

Letter from Across America Moving and Storage Assn.

Yeah!!!!

I have gotten a letter from Across America Moving and Storage Assn. They are based in Alexandria, Virginia. They are not to be confused with Across America Moving and Storage Company located in North Hollywood, CA. I filed an official complaint with them and according to Denise Douglas, she stated that there are certain by-laws that movers are supposed to follow to be part of the Across America Moving and Storage Assn. And clearly they are not following them! She will file the complaint on my behalf and give them a call. I am happy to have received the letter because this tells me that there is some hope to fixing this mess after all.

Since I have not heard from anyone regarding my personal possessions. I start to make the phone call rounds again. I call The Department of Transportation, Across America Moving and Storage Assn, Better Business Bureau and Federal Highway Commission. I am hoping that someone, anyone can help me put the pressure on these guys to give me back my stuff.  I have people calling TV Stations, Newspapers ect… to see if anyone is interested in hearing my story. I do not want anyone to go through what I have gone through. I will keep you posted

I do not hear from anyone at Across America Moving and Storage Co. I am disgusted at this whole situation. Since I have nothing but time on my hands I do more research on the net. Thank God that all of this information is available so quickly. If only I had done all of this research before? I would not be in this situation now. But, I am not the would of , could of, should of type of person…

September 1, 2007-Saturday-this is where it gets interesting!

09.01.07-Saturday- My family and I wait around, past the 4 pm cut off time and we get a phone call around 5 pm. The driver is lost and it takes him and hour to get there. The truck arrives at 6:00 pm. One of the guys that I recognize from the loading up of the truck is there.  He approaches me and wants me to sign this contract. I read the contract and it states that I am signing for a copy of the Inventory list. I explain to Alie that I never got a copy of this Inventory list and that I will not sign until I have a copy of those pages. Alie informs me that I need to sign and pay and then I can have a copy of the inventory pages. I finally agree, I go back and forth with him for a few minutes and it appears that he is not going to budge and I am not the type of person who likes to argue. So I walk into the house and get the money.  I come back out to the truck and I present the money to Alie, the driver, looks incredulous and he asks me if this is the money? I state that it is, every penny. He looks at me and tells me that he has to make a phone call and walks around to the front of the rental truck. Alie is gone for a few minutes.  Alie comes back with this look on his face and tells me that he cannot accept the money. I state that it is US Currency, I do not understand why?  Alie puts his boss on the phone and hands the phone over to me. It is Sean/James from the office he sounds upset and proceeds to tell me so.  I am confused and ask him again to take the cash only that he has requested. He tells me that coins and small bills are not currency.  I explain that it is. He starts to yell at me with some not so nice words and demands that I go to an ATM and get the cash. I explain again that my bank is 103 miles each direction and that my bank will only allow a maximum withdraw of 500.00 per day. This seems to make him even angrier. Sean starts to threaten me by saying things like:

I am crazy and mental in the head.

He is not joke and he will get me for this.

He will harm me in some way.

He will auction off all of my things on Tuesday September 4, 2007.

He is leaving because I do not have the cash.

He will personally break all of my things.

I will suffer for this.

He might come back with my things but I will have to come up with a lot more money.

There are other more volatile things that are said to me but I do not care to repeat them.

I explained to him once again that I have the cash and it is sitting right here on the back of your rental truck.  He hangs up the phone and the 3 drivers leave, Alie, Edgar and I am not sure about the name of the other driver.

August 31, 2007

08.31.07- Friday- I wait around most of the day and call around 4:00 pm and ask for Sean the office guy and a new guy that sounds like Sean states that his name is sh-James, James Coin. He is just as snippy as Sean and tells me that he never said a Friday delivery but has good news… my stuff will be delivered on Saturday, September 1, between 10-11 am. James gives me a time for delivery and has never done so before and I think to myself that maybe just possibly my stuff will finally come. James takes this opportunity to tell me at 4:00pm, on a holiday weekend, that there is a balance due only in cash $1547.00

This is a problem for me because I bank with WAMU and the closest location is 103 miles in one direction. What ATM will give you that kind of cash all at once? So I decide that the best course of action is to scrounge around for the cash and take from the family sparkletts bottle that is full of coins and small bills. I now have my cash and I am very ready to get my stuff. We forgo the option of leaving on  a short holiday, which by the way we were scheduled to leave for late Friday night and decide to wait for my stuff.

August 29, 2007

08.29.07-Wednesday- I wait around all day and at 3:00 pm I am upset and call to speak to Sean. I get him on the phone and ask for the Corporate Office Phone number. He seems upset by the fact that I want to go above his head in this matter and proceeds to yell at me and tells me that I am crazy and that he never said any thing about a Wednesday delivery. I ask him again when he thinks that my things will be here. I put him on my speaker phone in front of my cousin, so that I could have a witness, that infact I was not crazy and he states again that my delivery will be for sure on Friday, August 31, 2007. Early A.M. So be ready he tells me. Again, he hangs up the phone on me.

Monday, August 27, 2007-Office Call of Across America Moving and Storage Co.

08.27.07-Monday- I called and left a message, several messages, and finally I get a dispatcher named Sean. He tells me that he had never said anything about a Saturday delivery. I am annoyed… but I just want to be as cooperative as I possibly can be and ignore the fact that he is being snippy with me. Sean from the office clearly states that my delivery of my things will be Wednesday, August 29, 2007. This is the end of the discussion as far as he is concerned and he hangs up the phone on me.
